                <text>Håmule skans är en välbevarad försvarsanläggning från andra världskriget. I Dalsland och Bohuslän, med landskapens närhet till det då av Tyskland ockuperade Norge, finns fortfarande många spår efter andra världskriget i form av försvarsanläggningar, stridsvagnshinder och liknade. I Dalsland finns tre skansar som är tillgängliga och öppna för allmänheten (förutom Håmule skans är det Parsetjärns skans väster om Dals-Ed och skans 453 norr om Håverud). &#13;
&#13;
Håmule skans har en så kallad KG-hatt (ett fullsäkert värn för kulsprutegevär) och ett rum för förläggning av manskap och skyddsrum. Skansen byggdes för att försvara den intilliggande landsvägen med bron över Valboån, Håmule bro. Vid passagen över ån finns två generationer broar, en modern betongbro och den kulturhistoriskt särskilt värdefulla äldre bron från år 1892.&#13;

                <text>Utbyggnaden av järnvägsnätet var av stor betydelse för Sveriges omdaning från bondesamhälle till modernt industrisamhälle. Fåglaviks station uppfördes 1856 enligt ritningar av SJs dåvarande chefsarkitekt Adolf Edelsvärd enligt den så kallade Partillemodellen. Den fick en placering där den nya järnvägen korsade vägen mellan Borås och Skara. Kring stationen uppstod ett litet samhälle, som blev en knutpunkt för spannmålshandel. &#13;
&#13;
Än idag har Fåglaviks stationshus kvar det utseende det hade då det första loket anlände till platsen. Det är numera det enda bevarade i hela landet av sitt slag. Unikt är att hela stationsmiljön finns kvar med stationshus, uthus, jordkällare och trädgård. Riksantikvarieämbetet har föreslagit att Fåglaviks station ska bli statligt byggnadsminne på grund av de höga kulturhistoriska värdena på platsen. &#13;
&#13;
I närheten av stationen anlades på 1870-talet ett glasbruk som kom att få mycket stor betydelse för Fåglavik under ett drygt sekel. Bruket anlades just här eftersom kommunikationerna tack vare järnvägen var goda, men också för att det i närheten fanns stora mossar. I torvmossarna bröt man torv som torkades och användes som bränsle i glashyttornas ugnar. Till en början tillverkades framför allt slipade och oslipade småglas och flaskor vid Fåglaviks glasbruk, senare över gick man till fotogenbelysningsglas, flaskor och hushållsglas. &#13;
&#13;
Glasbruket hade flera hundra anställda när det var som störst. Det lades emellertid ner 1978, och merparten av de många byggnader som uppförts med koppling till bruket revs i september 2007. Vid platsen för bruket finns numera en minnessten. Sevärd är även den välbevarade Bruksvillan från 1875 som byggdes av brukspatronen A M Andersson. </text>

                <text>Westerstrand &amp; Söner Urfabrik grundades 1906 av Yngve Westerstrand. Det som startade som ett ordinärt urmakeri utvecklades med åren till en fabrik för tillverkning av torn- och stationsur, väggur och pendyler samt med tiden även tidur för till exempel idrottshallar och centraluranläggningar. Ur från Westerstrands finns och har funnits i snart sagt alla typer av miljöer där klockslag är viktiga, från hem och skolor till fabriker, idrottsanläggningar och kyrkor med mera. &#13;
&#13;
Fabriksbyggnaden som verksamheten inrymdes i uppfördes i funktionalistisk stil 1941 efter civilingenjör Göran Bergwalls ritningar. Karaktärsskapande för den i övrigt enkelt gestaltade fabriksbyggnaden är det centrala tornet med urtavlor som signalerar originalverksamheten i byggnaden. Arkitekturhistoriskt är byggnaden intressant, bland annat då den visar på hur funktionalismens formspråk dröjde sig kvar länge på landsorten. Sedan en tid tillbaka hyser fabriksbyggnaden andra funktioner än den ursprungliga.&#13;
&#13;
Westerstrands Ur gick i konkurs under 1980-talet men delar av verksamheten lever ändå kvar idag i Töreboda, idag som ett internationellt företag inom branschen tidssystem och informationstavlor. &#13;

                <text>Lagerhuset i Vara var ett av nio statliga lagerhus för spannmål som uppfördes runt om i landet efter första världskrigets nödår. Lagerhusen konstruerades av professorerna Carl Forssell och Edvard Hubendick, och exteriörerna formgavs av arkitekt Gunnar Asplund. I början av 1930-talet byggdes dess första silotorn i armerad betong, och anläggningen har därefter utvecklats till en av Sveriges största anläggningar för lagring av spannmål med ett stort antal siloceller i betong och plåt. &#13;
&#13;
Vara lagerhus är en imposant och betydelsefull byggnad på grund av den långa kontinuiteten. Den är också historiskt intressant eftersom det här är lätt att följa hur silobyggnader för spannmålshantering utvecklats under 1900-talet. </text>
