              <text>&lt;p class="p1"&gt;&lt;span class="s1"&gt;Konstfibrer börjar som en flytande lösning som pressas genom små hålförsedda munstycken (spinndysor) och bildar då långa obrutna trådar (filament). Utgångsmaterialet för viskos är träcellulosa (ofta från gran).&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="p2"&gt; &lt;span class="s1"&gt;Viskos var den första konstgjorda textilfibern och då den såg dagens ljus på 1890-talet kallades den ”Chardonnetsilke” efter sin upphovsman fransmannen Hilarie de Chardonnet, avsikten var såklart att efterlikna natursilke.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="p2"&gt; &lt;span class="s1"&gt;Engelsmännen Cross, Bevan och Beadle forskade kring cellulosa och utvecklade framställningen av viskosrayon i början av 1900-talet och därmed fick konstfibrerna sitt stora genombrott.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="p2"&gt; &lt;span class="s1"&gt;I början användes fibrerna till viss del för glödlampor, men det var inom textilindustrin användningen blev överlägset störst.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="p2"&gt; &lt;span class="s1"&gt;"Konstsilket bidrog i hög grad till att skapa den moderna beklädnadsstandarden, alla fick tillgång till plagg som förut bara var förbehållna ett mycket litet antal.” &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span class="s2"&gt;(&lt;em&gt;Att förädla- en historia på 90 år&lt;/em&gt; av Sylvia Danielsson, 2008.)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h2 class="p2"&gt;&lt;span class="s2"&gt;Processen&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/h2&gt;
&lt;p class="p1"&gt;&lt;span class="s1"&gt;Till Konstsilkes fabrik kom ark gjorda av cellulosa i stora balar. För vidare framställning behövdes kemikalier som natronlut, kolsvavla och svavelsyra, de levererades i tankvagnar. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="p2"&gt;&lt;span class="s1"&gt;Cellulosaarken behandlades med lut vilket gjorde att de svällde och bildade föreningen alkaliecellulosa. Efter att överflödig lut pressats bort maldes arken till en snöflingeliknande massa som sedan fick mogna i slutna plåtbehållare under en viss tid. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="p2"&gt;&lt;span class="s1"&gt;Nästa steg var knådningen, alkaliecellulosan blandades med kolsvavla och knådades i speciella maskiner för att få en geléaktig konsistens. Här tillsattes en utspädd lut och då bildades en tjock trög vätska och det var den som var själva viskosen.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="p2"&gt;&lt;span class="s1"&gt;Viskosen renades genom filterpressar och fick sedan eftermogna i stora behållare. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="p1"&gt;&lt;span class="s1"&gt;Sedan var det dags att framställa tråd av viskosen. Viskosen pressades då genom ett spinnmunstycke med fina hål som var nedsänkt i ett syrahaltigt spinnbad. I spinnbadet avgick kolsvavlan och lutmolekylerna och endast cellulosan återstod i form av ändlösa fina fibrer.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;</text>

Vulcans Tändsticksfabrik grundades på ön år 1868. Fabriken blev efter ett tag världens största tändsticksfabrik. &#13;

Tändstickstillverkningen finns fortfarande kvar i Tidaholm och drivs idag av Swedish Match. Nuvarande fabrik ligger ett stycke sydväst om den ursprungliga. &#13;
&#13;
I de gamla industribyggnaderna på Vulcanön finns idag Tidaholm museum med bland annat en välbevarad och fungerande smedja, ett bilmuseum samt en gymnasieskola.</text>
